On the 25th of November, one of our Shield Teams went back to the
Dominican Republic with a support team from San Diego, California. See Dominican Republic Part II below.

We returned the end of last September having conducted in partnership with Breaking Chains

Thanks to everyone and their support and keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we return to the Dominican to fight for the young victim's freedom.

Summary

7 successful rescue operations, with 12 total victims rescued, this includes some of their small children. We had a local judge that signed off on the girls and most parents were located who gave permission for their emplacement in Christian missionary run shelters. We also helped form a new shelter, equip and find staff for it. Security was not needed from The Defender Foundation on all Breaking Chains infiltrations, however, our Shield Team Contact Team involved themselves with every victim from every rescue operation.

Dominican Republic Part II

Defender Foundation representatives stayed in country for a total of 18 days. These consisted of Shield Team elements and Support Team personnel from the forming San Diego, California Chapter. Upon arriving in country, it was found that there were no shelters or safe houses that would currently take victims in. At this time, the mission was changed to help existing shelters and safe houses and convince them of our willingness to commit to long term operations and compliance with local regulations.

Defender Teams helped to improve and paint several shelters in this regard and were able to gain trust for future operations. The Defender Foundation leadership is actively pursuing avenues to speak with effective government representatives in the Dominican Republic and address some of the legislation that need to be initiated there for the safety of the victims.

Our California Team did however go out as guest with an existing street ministry and were able to witness and talk with a current victim working the streets. They were able to help convince her of the need to come to the safe house and this was done. The girl was pregnant and 16. At latest report, she is still in the shelter and a baby shower was just held for her.

We believe that this type of mission is just as essential as full blown Shield Operations. These relationships will change people's lives in the future.

We can't wait to go back!

Upon the teams return to the U.S., Dan Benedict, Shield Team Director and organizer of the first Dominican Republic Mission spoke candidly with Dottie Laster, of Zeus Radio Network about what transpired on the Atlantic island.  He relates the triumphs and dangers the Team encountered and about Defenders partnering with Breaking Chains ( a Dominican Anti-Human Trafficking Coalition) to create a new safe house for rescued victims.
